2e Spelljammer For 5e

A few years ago (before I ever had any idea that there would be an official 5e DnD Spelljammer release) I wanted to try my hand converting the old 2e materials to be playable with the 5e rules. I spent many hours on this and created most of the materials found here in this pdf. I wanted to capture the charm of the 2e vibe and make it functional for a 5e table.

What you will find...

A ship to ship combat rules system that is easier to use than the old 2e system and more like 5e rules. I won't claim that they're flawless, but I think they'll be a little more intuitive for a table used to 5e compared to the 2e system.

Character creation stats for the Spelljammer races (species) done in the style of 2e, but setup for 5e. I also included some from Star Frontiers. You'll see similarities to the ones in the official 5e Spelljammer release, but these are converted pretty direct from the 2e sources. 

Kits from 2e that can be used sort of like 5e backgrounds (or in conjunction with) for character creation. Also, these are taken straight from the 2e sources and converted. 

You'll find a few creative liberties here and there to try and make some things make sense in the 5e framework. If you're particularly knowledgeable around the 2e materials, you may have your own opinions about these adjustments and as with everything in DnD, your table... change it to your liking.

This pdf is 53 pages. I planned on it only being a few pages, but it quickly became apparent that it needed to be more. 

What you will not find...

Character creation being not as balanced in 2e in the same ways that it is in 5e, these conversions reflect that. You won't find perfectly balanced rule sets, but you will find all the oddity and weirdness that was allowed in character creation in those old books and hopefully will have some fun with that. 

You won't find everything related to Spelljammer lore and the game world to replace having the original 2e books. While I have explained some concepts from the Spelljammer world for newer players, it will be helpful to have some of the Spelljammer game books or at least an understanding of all that is entailed in the weirdness of Spelljammer. 

Finally, I created these tools as a labor of love. I have been a huge fan of DnD for over 30 years, across editions, and only wanted to create something to enhance the 5e game, bringing more Spelljammer to it. With the release of the official Spelljammer books I was reminded of this project from years ago and decided to put it out into the world.
