Inspiration
I wrote this adventure after some inspiration, reading some Karl Edward Wagner Kane stories. I've been reading the series for a while. In a story I was reading recently, Kane is hiding out in a tomb and then has to escape and has the help of an assassin. I thought about what it would be like to take on the role of a character that had to go into that tomb and track down someone like Kane. Of course, Qitar is not the mighty adversary that Kane would be, but he's got some similarities. And I made it 3 assassins to create some dynamics, where if the GM wants to get into it, they can be sneaking around and hiding in different places, or laying traps. I thought this could be interesting if a GM wants to expand, also there's potential for further enemies... such as if the assassins are from a guild or if one of them survives. There are some nice directions or ways to incorporate more enemies for the PCs to make.
Another place I got some inspirado was from listening to the panel discussion (Ship of the Dead Podcast) talking about OSR that was recently on YouTube, featuring some tabletop designers I enjoy. Link: here. They talk about all the forms OSR can take, the muddy definition, but most importantly the rich creator community. Adventures, systems, and accessories can take on a whole variety of forms, some very polished and some just thrown together. I'm someone who has to get my ideas out there. But, I'm not one to be the best at layout, art, or even editing some days. I create because I have to create and I think it is all useful, but not perfect or even necessarily as complete as it could be. This is one I just had to get the idea out there and now I'm done. There's no art, the map is minimalist, and there's certainly nothing special about typing it out into a word processing doc. But, I still think it has a fun little adventure that a lot of people can enjoy. That's some punk rock OSR goodness, in my opinion, and I hope you get something out of it. Certainly, an adventure to possibly run, but maybe also something that gets you to write down your next idea and release it out into the world.
