more playtesting
I had the chance to do more playtesting tonight and it felt so good, and I just want the whole planet to hear about it.
The players (2 of them) played a Centaur Warrior and a Sentient Skeleton Moon Wizard. As far as mechanics are concerned, everything went very smoothly. They ventured into a dungeon and explored and fought some goblins. The quest was one I wrote for a different system but it translated well using the Monster Book.
Probably the best part of the experience was the inspirado flowing from the players, though. They had ideas for expanding the spell lists and coming up with magic items, and some other things. This is the direction I want the game to go when players sit around a table because Be You Bold is really just a starting point for adventures. The spell lists can't be complete, but they can inspire further spells. There isn't much of an equipment list or magic item list, but there's so much room to grow it (and stuff can easily be adapted from other games for your table, if you so desire!). So, my goal of creating a pretty kick-ass game that is quick to learn and free/low-cost to download seems to be coming together. Anyway, that's all... just the good feels.
Aaaaand, I am finding further ways I can clarify the character creation wording and other details within the book. Nothing illustrates this kind of thing more than having fresh eyes look at it. So, that was some growth, as well, and a project for me to work on in coming weeks. Thanks for reading.
